Further to the 47+57 t'n't comment yesterday, 47705 worked top'n'tail with 57003 over 10 years ago on Saturday 21st August 1999. One of the regular trains which ran with a loco hauled set when events were being held at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium was the 0719 Crewe-Manchester Piccadilly and 0833 Manchester-Cardiff. In later years the former ran via Warrington so it could use just one loco, but in earlier times the train ran into the main station at Piccadilly and the 0719 was top'n'tailed - on 21/08/99 57003 worked the 0719 to Manchester, with 47705 hauling it out to Cardiff and leaving the 57 to get on with its usual work. The following week, 28/08/09 - 47705 again worked the 0833 from Piccadilly, but 47301 was the loco that worked into Manchester!
Ironically, 47705 is now 57303 and is today coincidentally working in top'n'tail form with another 57 on Cardiff-Taunton passenger workings!
